“Seek justice, release the oppressed…”  (Isaiah 1:17)

INTERNATIONAL JUSTICE MISSION (IJM) UK

What does IJM do?

Elisabeth, rescued from forced prostitution in Southeast Asia, now lives a life of freedom as a university student

Nagaraj and his family released from slavery in a South Asian brick kiln, now own and operate a brick kiln of their own.

Irene, a Zambian widow whose land was stolen by her husband’s family after his death, had her property restored is now able to support herself and her stepson.

IJM uses the professional skills of Christian criminal investigators, lawyers, social workers/psychologists to investigate, prosecute, and aftercare the victims of such evil crimes from sexual exploitation, slavery to oppression.  We also utilise the gifts of church leaders to educate in the call to biblical justice and Christians to pray for God’s blessing on our work.

Who started IJM?

Gary Haugen a committed Christian and lawyer worked for the US justice department.  In 1994 he was seconded to the United Nations as Director of Investigations in the aftermath of the Rwandan genocide.

Following that experience, along with others in 1997 IJM was founded after surveying seventy global mission agencies about their experience of injustice across the world.

IJM now has field offices in Africa, Asia and Latin America seeking to serve those children and adults who are in bonded slavery, forced prostitution, whose land has been stolen, or are illegally detained, face police brutality, sex trafficking and unprosecuted rape.  We achieve this through undercover investigations and prosecution through the courts of justice.

Recently, six people were set free from bonded slavery in South Asia and five young women were rescued from forced prostitution in Thailand.  This is the personal legal justice ministry of IJM.
